What is The Shine Journal? 


The SHINE Mindfulness Activity Journal© is a fun, interactive journal that contains rich character-building exercises along with daily fill-in-the-blank pages to bring out the best in your child. The Journal pages and activities are short, colorful, and engaging. They are designed to help kids learn kindness and gratitude as well as develop social-emotional skills to calm, focus, and decrease anxiety in a proactive way while also having a positive mindset toward themselves. The journal helps kids be happy, enjoy life, improve overall well-being.... and SHINE!

The SHINE Journal can be used in the home, school, homeschool, and youth group settings. While originally intended to be used at home, it has proven to be successful in all areas. It is a month-long immersion into mindfulness and learning skills to help kids thrive throughout their lives. 

What is Mindfulness?


Mindfulness is about being in the moment, in the present. It is about paying attention to things in a calm, relaxed way. It is to really notice and be open to what you are doing, whether that is sitting quietly, playing, working on a project, etc. Mindfulness promotes an understanding of yourself, your capabilities, and your emotions and can help kids cope with everyday stressors. 


Please note we may all still experience stressful or upsetting events and situations; however, practicing mindfulness can help make those times shorter and less severe.

In what areas can mindfulness in the SHINE journal help my child?

How do I complete the SHINE Journal:

The Shine Journal takes just a few minutes a day…or more if you want it to. It is designed to be done every day, any time of day, whether your schedule works better in the morning, afternoon, evening, or split up into a couple of times during the day. Just pick a time that works best for your family!


The Daily pages can be great conversation starters and a way to gauge how your child is feeling that day with the Emoji Decoder. The Activity pages are sprinkled in throughout each week. Do them along with your might just learn some new things about each other! Many of the activities are tools to help learn skills in a proactive, neutral, and fun way. They are great tools to implement into daily life, especially before perceived stressors such as before a test, a tryout, a dentist appointment, etc., and also when emotions are running high. The journal also includes Weekly Planners and Weekly Activities Calendars to help with organization and developing independence. The Weekly Planner is more schedule-based to fill in activities for the week, and the Activities Calendar gives fun suggested ideas to do each day of the week. Enjoy!
